Our Story

Made where American pottery has been made for generations

Seagrove, North Carolina is known as the pottery capital of the Southeast — and for good reason. For over two centuries, families here have passed down the craft from one generation to the next.

Uwharrie Crystalline Pottery sits in that tradition. Every piece we make goes through the same fundamental process: wedging, throwing, trimming, glazing, and firing. The difference is in the attention — to the weight of the clay, the consistency of the glaze, the quality of the finish.

We don't mass-produce. We make what we'd be proud to use at our own table, and we stand behind every piece we sell.

The Process

From raw clay to finished piece

No shortcuts. No molds. Every piece is individually shaped, glazed, and fired by hand.

01

Wedging & Throwing

Clay is wedged to remove air bubbles, then centered and thrown on the wheel. Each form is shaped by hand — no two are identical.

02

Trimming & Drying

Once leather-hard, each piece is trimmed for balance and stability, then slowly dried to prevent cracking before the first firing.

03

Glazing

Our custom glaze blends are applied by dipping, pouring, or brushing. Each batch is tested for food safety and consistency.

04

High-Fire Firing

Pieces fire at cone 6 (approximately 2230°F), transforming the clay into durable, vitreous stoneware that's dishwasher safe.
